Village of Gordes

Perched on a hill 42 km. E of Avignon, Gordes is a walled town, originally built to protect the town from foreign armies.

The houses rise in tiers above the Imergue Valley on the edge of the Vaucluse plateau facing Luberon.

On Monday morning we walked the 4 miles to this town before breakfast to shop for ingredients for the days cooking.  See the adjacent photo of the market.
